Important Tourism Projects to Boost Albany’s Economy

Over the last few years, we’ve seen Albany evolve into a vibrant city with tourism and hospitality predominantly contributing to this growth. One of the biggest efforts of the city is allotting $75,000 each year to fund significant Albany tourism projects. In 2021, total Albany tourism sales reached $135.4 million, and is expected to welcome dramatic growth over the coming years.

As true blue Albany locals, John and I are extremely proud and humbled to contribute to this growth with Realforce Property completing important projects set to boost Albany’s economy and enrich the lives of the local community. These include Albany’s largest food and beverage venue, $4.8M Due South Tavern, and the $4M restoration project of the 130-year-old Premier Hotel

Here are some of the Albany tourism projects in the pipeline:

The Albany Waterfront Project

Featuring majestic views of the Princess Royal Harbour, this waterfront development is set to transform the foreshore into a highly desirable location that brings together the town centre and marina bay area. Where tourists and locals can engage in a variety of lifestyle and entertainment activities thus making it the beating heart of Albany. This project is set to deliver significant environmental, community and economic benefits across the Great Southern Region.

At this present stage of planning and design, there is an opportunity for expression of interest to lease the Albany tourism development with over 2000 sqm of commercial floor space on the ground floor.

This is perfect for a Food and Beverage Owner who would like to expand its footprint in an enviable location.

Trails Hubs Strategy 2015 – 2025

The City of Albany Trails Hub Strategy 2015-2025 comprises general goals as well as a number of linked and interconnected trail initiatives, that give a framework in the development of trails and trail-related goods within the city. It aims to:

  • Improve the quality and quantity of trails in renowned Albany tourist attractions and sites
  • Improve trail maintenance and upkeep via long-term governance approaches
  • Invest in structures and services to improve access and use of Albany’s trails
  • Increase the visibility of Albany’s distinctive trails and outdoor adventure opportunities to a larger tourist base

Albany Artificial Surf Reef

The city hopes to entice and retain a younger population, who might initially choose to live in urban regions with a larger range of recreational opportunities. The artificial surf reef is believed to be one of the key Albany tourist attractions that will help keep the younger demographic while also boosting recreational opportunities for locals and tourists. Some of its objectives in Albany tourism are as follows:

  • Improve recreational and surfing amenities by creating a consistent surfable wave aimed at beginner to intermediate levels
  • Create a quality wave suitable for holding events, allowing Albany to be recognized as a surfing town
  • Improve marine ecosystem in and around the reef structure, particularly for snorkelling and diving activities

Albany Motorsport Park

This Albany tourist attraction is a family-friendly, inexpensive, and long-term multi-use motor sport park for the Great Southern Region. It can accommodate the majority of racing disciplines and related sports while maximising the commercial advantages of shared facilities. Below are some of its objectives:

  • Make a formalised and safe venue for motorsports and eliminate unsafe driving behaviour on local roadways
  • Attract participants and tourists to the area for events, which will help the local economy through increasing visitors, financing, and event sponsorship
  • Reduce costs for participating clubs with the use of shared resources and facilities
